Duplo opened the doors to their Addlestone headquarters for their Celebration of Print 2022 (COP22) event to show off their advanced and ever-evolving range of finishing equipment. To add to the excitement, Duplo had two post-press device launches to add to their collection, which customers, distributor and press alike were suitably impressed by.
The DuSense DDC-8000 opens up a universe of sensory driven print applications that can add value to your customer’s marketing campaigns, communications and documents
Duplo combined their UK and International forces to celebrate the very best in ingenious print applications, and those attending the event were able to experience the new technology being pushed to its limit. These new innovations included the DuSense DDC-8000 B2 embellishment system and DC-20K B2 Cutter Creaser System.
Mike Beese, Director at Dectek and enthusiastic customer of Duplo adds: “When you look at the machines, you just want them. Events like this help you understand the whole ethos of Duplo, it’s a very friendly atmosphere and its one focused on understanding your requirements as well.”
The DuSense DDC-8000
The new DuSense DDC-8000, a high-quality B2 UV coater with inline foiling, was built on the success of the DuSense DDC-810. The system enables all print finishing manufacturers to further strengthen their position as an embellishment provider.
The DuSense DDC-8000 upgrades your standard spot UV coating and embellishment, especially with the paper formats it handles, and the range of superb high quality raised effects it delivers. Witnessing the demonstrations at the show, this machine very obviously has efficiency at its core, producing very little waste and applying varnish with micron accuracy at 600dpi. It also features a very high degree of automation, in a compact footprint, and its ‘green button’ technology means new operators can get up to speed very quickly.
There was certainly a buzz around the technology across both days of the event, with many of the visitors present telling Innovation in Print Media and Marketing that they already have their eyes on the DuSense DDC-8000 due to its ability to open up a plethora of new markets and application opportunities.
This powerful package is equipped with a high-capacity feed system, processing up to 585 x 1068mm large sheet formats and allows a max sheet weight of 600gsm. This means it is compatible with both digital and litho presses, while also featuring a 200mm paper capacity allowing for longer runs without stopping, as well as a patented multi suction belt feed system to reduce down time. Finally, the Automatic Thickness Detection (ATD) and the Barcode Reader on the DuSense, ensure the best quality print results and can allow for variable data printing.
The DC-20K
The second innovation introduced at the event was Duplo’s DC-20K, a versatile and automated B2 Cutter Creaser system. Efficiency is also a primary driver of this technology, removing complex manual processes, the system reduces production cost, increases productivity, and removes the need to guillotine – giving print service providers the ability to ‘load and leave it’.
The B2 Cutter will adjust automatically to accommodate a wide range of jobs, bringing the flexibility of its SRA3 DC systems to the B2+ size format. It can also be added to your existing DC-746 system to enable B2+ functionality. The system can also handle 75cm sheets in landscape or portrait format, allowing jobs to be laid out to maximise coverage and grain direction. The platform has been engineered specifically to increase the gamut of print applications that can be produced on one machine, in one compact floor space – a critical consideration when production space is limited.
A kaleidoscope of opportunity
COP22 certainly celebrated in colour, with a rainbow theme running throughout the Duplo showroom. They accommodated all attendees with a bar, food vans and some great music throughout the day. Guests were also able to connect and network once more and see Duplo’s headquarters for the first time since the pandemic.
Marine Kerivel-Browne comments: “We were so excited to welcome so many people to our Celebration of Print event, it is so nice to be able to see people and show them our new showroom, but more importantly show off our new software.”
Brian O’Dolan, Export Sales Director at Duplo explains: “We have enhanced our software, we have the new iSaddle 5.0, the B2 DuSense, the B2 Cutter as well as the 648 and the 618, so a lot of new babies to play with.”
The festivities did not stop at the daytime event, but extended into afternoon and evening celebrations. Moving onto Denbies vineyard, attendees were able to celebrate and taste the wines of Surrey while talking shop and comparing their experiences of the day. A key topic of conversation was the critical need for printers to diversify their product and service offering and be able to respond to the creative needs of their customers no matter their print requirements. With the innovation on display during the day and the inspirational product samples being produced, it is clear that Duplo has developed technology to answer this market need.
All got to enjoy a three-course meal at the event, with speeches delivered by none other than Bruno Picquet, the CEO and Chairman of Duplo, who commented: “I’m delighted to welcome you here, it’s been extremely exciting to share all the technology with you all that has been hidden within the last two years of the pandemic. It’s so good to be connected, and I thank you all, customers, distributors and press for joining us today.”
The day was completed with a stay at the Wotton House hotel in Dorking, a beautiful country house hotel surrounded by luxury gardens. The consensus from those in attendance was that it is essential for technology developers to drive the market, opening up new avenues of opportunity so that printers can inspire their customers, add new value to their businesses and generate new print volumes. COP22 it seems delivered handsomely on all counts.
