The Printing Charity – Industry Support

We’re the Printing Charity, the only charity dedicated to providing practical, emotional and financial support to people from the vibrant, evolving print, packaging, paper, graphics and publishing sectors, and the allied trades, whether in work, currently unemployed, or in retirement.

Since we were founded in 1827, the industry we support has changed beyond all recognition, but while the ways we help have changed, the need for our services remains as important today as it always has been.

We know that life doesn’t always go according to plan, and we believe that everyone should have someone to turn to when that is the case.

Our helpline

Helpline Awareness Day (4)

“I would recommend them to anyone struggling, and I won't hesitate to contact them in the future if I need to.”

We are proud to run a free, confidential employee helpline for businesses in our sectors, providing independent emotional and practical support to their employees and families.

Emotional support is available 24/7/365 from BACP-accredited counsellors, while practical support is available Monday – Friday, 8am-8pm, from information and advice specialists.

Please e-mail helpline@theprintingcharity.org.uk to find out more about establishing the helpline in your organisation.

“The helpline gives the team the immediate chance to speak in a judgement-free zone with dedicated professionals no matter what time of day or night.”

Financial and signposting support

Time to Talk day 2024

“The charity are lifesavers.”

Financial support is available for people struggling with essential day-to-day expenditure, as well as for those who find themselves hit with a significant, unexpected cost. We signpost those in need to partner organisations who provide specialist services, including for debt management, wellbeing, benefits, housing, energy prices and implications of the cost of living crisis.

Independent retirement living

“I have a great feeling of safety and security, living here.”

We’re proud to be members of the Almshouse Association, and those retired from our sectors who are of reduced financial means may be eligible to live in our affordable, independent living developments in Basildon & Bletchley, friendly, supportive communities providing plenty of opportunities to make new friends, where help is on hand if needed.

Everyone’s circumstances are unique, so the best thing to do is start a conversation with our friendly team to learn more about the support we may be able to provide. Please call 01293 542820 or email support@theprintingcharity.org.uk.

Rising Star Awards

“Being able to complete the courses of my choice has helped advance my skills and knowledge required to further my career path.”

Our annual awards programme, the Rising Star Awards, is for people aged 18-30 building their career in the sectors we support. The awards help emerging talent shine through grants of up to £1500, funding courses and training to boost their future career development, benefiting them, the businesses where they work and the industry overall.

Wellbeing Community

“We know that supporting workplace wellbeing effectively really matters to businesses in our sectors. We hear this time and again from people we work with, and findings from the sector-wide research we ran last summer reinforced it: more than seven in ten have a strong sense of workplace belonging and inclusion. But we also know from the same conversations that for people leading businesses in our sectors it can feel daunting and challenging to know how to develop a workplace wellbeing programme, particularly against the backdrop of so many competing demands for their time. The Wellbeing Community is a route through which the Printing Charity can help wellbeing champions in businesses #BeTheChange by accessing workplace wellbeing support entirely free of charge, offering straightforward and tailored resources for businesses of all sizes.”

Free, tailored support to help those responsible for workplace wellbeing within sector businesses further support their teams.

Everyone who plays a part in workplace wellbeing in their business, in any way – for example, through an HR role, as a mental health first aider, a people manager, a business owner or as a member of a wellbeing team – can sign up to tap into the Community’s free, off-the-shelf resources, guidance and content.

Making workplace wellbeing a priority is not only the right thing to do for people; it’s proven to have a positive impact on businesses’ bottom lines, too. A large-scale study from academic partners including the London School of Economics found that a ‘meaningful increase’ in employee wellbeing yields, on average, a productivity increase of around 10%.
