Product line forms part of the Group’s continued commitment to the circular economy with innovation catalysing a transition from plastic to paper

Fedrigoni Group, the leading global producer of luxury speciality papers for packaging, publishing and graphics, as well as self-adhesive labelling products, has launched Materia Viva Volume 2: Metamorphosis  a collection of papers that aims to replace plastic with paper.

The collection comprises only strictly mono-material, 100% recyclable paper with a variety of practical qualities which amplify the scope of application – from single-dose liquid packaging, photographic prints and water-resistant shopping bags to cosmetic packaging, transparent wrapping and luxury self-adhesive labels.

Materia Viva Metamorphosis is an evolution of Materia Viva Roots launched by Fedrigoni in 2021 – a collection of ranges with papers made with between 25% and 100% recycled fibres. Materia Viva Metamorphosis is a new build on this sustainable proposition, marrying eco-innovation and quality with luxury. The papers in the collection can be scratch-proof, grease-proof, stain-proof, mould and water-resistant, translucent, metallic, rigid or elastic and resistant to impact damage, tearing, folding, heat and light without the reinforcement of plastic or other polluting substances. The final product is as versatile as it is fully recyclable. The new swatch encapsulates the innovative technologies and capabilities of the Group’s offering, many of which are available as a bespoke order.

Micaela Di Trana, Marketing & R&D VP at Fedrigoni Paper, commented: “The innovation introduced by Metamorphosis is inspired by the principles of the circular economy which, in the context of the development of new products, pushes for increasingly cutting-edge solutions, capable of combining performance, aesthetics and care for the environment. We have carried out research and developed solutions for over 20 years in order to reduce the environmental impact of our supply chain whilst elevating the creativity of brands, designers, printers and converters, as well as students and young professionals. We aim to be innovators and leaders in this space, showing how it is possible to replace plastic with paper without compromising on quality or aesthetics.”

Fedrigoni’s commitment to the sustainability of its products, processes and supply chain is written in black and white in the targets it has set itself for 2030. This is illustrated by the Platinum Rating it received from EcoVadis, an international sustainability rating agency, which places Fedrigoni in the top 1% of companies in the same industry worldwide for ESG performance.
