Twenty10 Digital, Northampton, has become the latest UK print business to install a Morgana ColorCut SC5000 digital die-cutting and creasing machine. Morgana Systems Ltd, Milton Keynes, a Plockmatic International post-press product business, exhibited the product at last year’s edition of The Print Show.
Morgana’s ColorCut SC5000 is a freestanding, “on-demand” digital sheet cutter and creaser, with no physical cutting dies or time-consuming set-up costs. The unit is targeted at busy print businesses seeking an affordable, high-capacity device capable of completely unattended cutting production. The compact, free-standing device is conveniently mobile, and can be easily accommodated in any print shop. It is ideal for the production of display materials, short run packaging work, and other cut-out jobs.
Commenting on the purchase, Paul Riley, Managing Director of Twenty10 Digital, said: “We looked at the machine at last year’s Print Show. We had viewed it before, so it was something that was already on our radar. The offer price for the SC5000 at the show was just too good for us to say no really.
“We had been sending work such as short run boxes, pocket folders, and various other cut-outs, to an external supplier. That kind of work has definitely been on the increase, so this really was the right time for us to bring such tasks in-house.
“It’s taken our team just a little while to get used to the machine and its capabilities, but we are already turning out some amazing work. We produced some pillow box shaped boxes for a client recently which looked really eye-catching.
“We went to a local show ourselves recently and created some stand-up Easter figures as promotional items, with cut-outs for them to carry chocolate eggs. It just showed the potential for this sort of equipment to future customers.
“This purchase is not only about the cost of sending it out, it’s those other critical factors – the time that’s added to the final delivery of the job, losing control of that final delivery, along with the need for somebody to go out and deliver and collect the work. They are just as important in this fast turnaround world.”
The Morgana Intec ColorCut SC5000 is a revolutionary type of automated cutter, blending flatbed and sheet fed technologies. The unit combines ultra-reliable feeding with an instant job retrieval system, and flawless high-speed cutting and creasing.
