If UK housing options do not improve, it is projected that, by 2040, 13 million people aged 65+ will be living in unsuitable housing (source: ARCO.org.uk).
The Printing Charity has throughout its history provided support and a home for retired print industry workers, and its residents speak of its homes as welcoming communities where they have made new friends.
In a recent resident survey, 98% agreed that they “feel part of a community”, sharing comments such as that they “love being with other people” and “nice place, nice people.” One person described their move as “The feeling you get when you come home.”
The Printing Charity’s Almshouses are for people retired from a career in print, paper, packaging, graphics or publishing, offering safety and security to those of reduced financial means.
Applicants do not already have to be living locally to the homes to move into one of the comfortable, modern one-bedroom apartments: applications are welcomed from anyone, currently located anywhere in the country, who has worked for at least three years in print or the allied trades, or is a dependent of someone who has.
