Barkers Print is popping pink

With demand continuing to rise for special effects print products in order to help marketing communications stand out from the digital noise, Dorking-based digital printer, Barkers Print, recently invested in a Xerox Iridesse five-colour press and specifically seek to exploit its immense colour reproduction capabilities.

The company opted for Fluorescent Pink as its fifth colour. It is a new ink on the Iridesse and enables the creation not only of vibrant, popping pinks but also, when combined with CMYK, it produces vibrant oranges, reds and violets, which cannot be achieved with CMYK alone.

“The Fluorescent Pink was crucial,” says Managing Director Rob Barker, who adds: “It will add punch to reds and enable us to print difficult to reach oranges.”

Barkers Print is currently producing commercial work on the new press, which will also enable the company to produce extended sheets, thanks to its extra-long sheet capability, that allows printing on media up to 1.2m long and 400gsm.

“We have previously had to send out covers and print for A4 landscapes, and we want to keep this in-house,” explains Rob.

Rob further comments that the press also delivers a smoother finish than the company’s previous machine.

The Iridesse with award-winning ColorFLX Technology, supplied by Xeretec, is capable of a wide range of digital production, including short run, short turnaround work, without compromising image quality. It can handle complex jobs, with non-traditional stock sizes, weights, and embellishments, enabling printers to expand their capabilities while simplifying production.

Rob is already looking at silver as the next extra colour for the machine: “There are already customers that would use silver, and, in the longer term, we can upgrade the five-colour Iridesse to a six-colour configuration.”

Established in 1991, Xeretec now employs over 250 people in 14 offices across the UK and Ireland. The company’s strong customer-focussed culture, partnerships and in-house talent enables it to assist its clients in achieving greater flexibility and workplace productivity by utilising the best production printing or managed print service and solutions for their long-term needs.
