It’s been over six weeks since the Energy Bill Relief Scheme for non-domestic users was announced and we’re beginning to get a better understanding of how this support will be applied by Suppliers. However, it’s important that businesses understand that the calculations to work out the discount for non-domestic users are far more complex than for domestic users.

There is a common misconception that the rate you will pay for your energy will be as low as the supported price announced by the Government (21.10p per unit for electricity and 7.50p per unit for Gas). However, as our partners, BCR Associates, explain in their recent summary of the Energy Bill Relief Scheme there are many factors to consider when trying to understand exactly how the discount will be applied. The actual cost of your energy for the supported period will depend on the type of contract you are on (fixed, flexible or out of contract rates) and will also be subject to non-commodity and supplier costs.
