Having been founded in 1909 and traded successfully ever since, Ernest Cummins Printers has founded its success on never standing still and always adapting to feed demand for print in its kaleidoscope of forms. It has now revealed how it turned a challenging 2020 on its head by doing just that.

From manufacturing and print personalising PPE equipment to help with the fight against Covid-19, diversifying into large-format graphics and display or offering artists and creatives bespoke paper and print engineering services, Ernest Cummins is powering through on all cylinders.

Hannah Cummins, Manager of Ernest Cummins Printers and part of a five generation family legacy explains how it has battled through adversity and come through swinging: “Our philosophy is to always be looking for the next opportunity, the next market to diversify into and from Directors and offce staff to machine operatives, quality control and finishing we are an eclectic mix, diverse.”

Hannah continues: “We are rich with character, yet we all have one thing in common: The love of ink and colour and pride in a good job. We successfully work to the same aims, objectives and job specifications, that is to your brief. We are all practical, logical, creative, lateral thinkers and enjoy the process of innovation.”

"I think at the moment everyone needs to see some colour and sunshine as they walk round the winter streets"

A key example is its move into offering bright and colourful window graphics print and installation, the latest being at the local Broadway Shopping Centre.

Hannah comments: “I think at the moment everyone needs to see some colour and sunshine as they walk round the winter streets, so along with the Festive lights before Christmas these will bring some cheer to the Centre which is still in operation for the essential shops in there.”

Another example of its approach to innovation and diversification is its move into packaging, producing an Asian Tea Box for a loyal customer, which not only shows off the fabulous design skills of its team and manufacturing capabilities, but also beautiful colour depth achievable with its presses.

Hannah adds: “We are also very proud of how we have diversified into offering PPE and we can assist in fighting the Pandemic by making sure all regional businesses that need cost-effective, comfortable, safe and durable equipment have it. We can also personalise all our PPE range using in-house capabilities.”

Hannah concludes: “Finally, we completed Bradford Manufacturing Weeks 2020. Even with Covid-19 we were still able to come together with other manufacturers and schools across the district to explain about roles within the print industry. Relevant qualifications required for each job whether be finance, graphic design, management, print operative. We are very proud of giving young people the knowledge and confidence to enter the world of print.”
