What is beyond CMYK?

Beyond CMYK is the ability to print beyond the typical cyan, magenta, yellow and black that we are all familiar with. It can also be referred to as CMYK+, speciality inks or print embellishments.

Whilst beyond CMYK is nothing new, it is now much easier to produce because the technology is integrated directly into the CMYK process eliminating the need for secondary processes or equipment. Plus, it is a much more environmentally conscious process as there are no special or toxic chemicals or solvents involved.

What types of digital embellishments are available?

Metallic Inks – golds and silver add sparkle and richness whilst giving a premium feel

White Ink – allows you to print on darker media and can be used as an underlay to make other colours stand out
Clear Ink – clear spots that make certain elements pop off the page, clear floods to add sheen to the whole page or textured effects that lift designs into the third dimension
Fluorescent Inks – vibrant designs that pop, ideal for safety signage and invisible watermarks that are revealed under UV light
Gamut extension – the addition of blue, orange, green and pink inks, useful if you want to move Pantone/brand colour matching from offset to digital
