Barnsley-based Spin Print has installed the latest Ricoh Pro C9500, strengthening its production capabilities and expanding the creative options it can offer customers. The company is also celebrating 20 years in business this year.

Dan Brook, Managing Director at Spin Print, explained that the decision was driven by timing and opportunity: “We were just at the end of the lease with our old Ricoh, we got a great deal from our supplier. So now we’ve got full Ricoh capacity in our small format digital.”

The Ricoh Pro C9500 is Ricoh’s flagship digital colour production press, capable of running at up to 135 pages per minute, with a peak monthly volume of 2.6 million impressions. It produces output at an impressive 2,400 x 4,800dpi resolution, with advanced gloss control and colour consistency tools that make its digital output virtually indistinguishable from offset.

For Spin Print, the extended sheet length up to 1,200mm, was particularly attractive, opening creative opportunities for the company, Dan continues: “On the estate agency front, some of the large estate agents like to use the six-page landscape A4 for publications, because you can get a better impact for the shots of the houses within that format. We can also now do eight-page A4 portrait brochures. Visually, there’s a lot more impact on a brochure when you’ve got a large image that folds out, as opposed to just across a stitched four-page.”

Spin Print has upgraded to new Ricoh Pro C9500, improving operation efficiencies, productivity and the value it can deliver to clients

Improving efficiency

The upgrade is not just about new formats, but also about streamlining operations. Spin Print has added a stacker unit and benefits from the Pro C9500’s ability to handle a wide variety of substrates up to 470gsm with full productivity: “It can handle a lot more substrates, thicker substrates and duplex on thicker substrates as well. We were happy with the previous model too, which is why we decided to stick with Ricoh.”

With Ricoh’s inline automation and colour management tools, Spin Print expects to reduce waste, improve consistency and turn around jobs faster. Yet Brook is clear the investment wasn’t about chasing new markets: “We didn’t buy it just to jump into other markets. These are markets we’ve supported before, but this machine helps us do it quicker, in better quality and on a larger range of substrates. As well as giving our customers more options.”

Looking ahead, Dan sees the C9500 as part of a wider pattern of reinvestment: “We celebrate 20 years in October and we’re still investing and growing. Next year we’ll be looking at new litho presses and new finishing kit. After all the ups and downs of COVID, we’re still here, still supporting IPIA members, and still adding new capabilities.”

For a business built on reliability and strong trade relationships, the Ricoh Pro C9500 investment reflects Spin Print’s philosophy: steady growth, continuous reinvestment, and giving customers more choice in how they bring their print to life.
